Job Summary

The Senior Financial Analyst reports to the Supervisor, Financial Accounting and provides technical accounting expertise to the Canada Finance organization. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, supporting audits and tax processes, and strengthening internal controls. This position is expected to develop into a subject matter expert across multiple complex accounting and reporting areas.

Position Overview

Key Responsibilities:

General & Administrative (G&A) Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and analyze monthly G&A financial results for the Canada Business Unit, including detailed variance analysis and commentary for management and corporate finance.

  • Present G&A and labour cost analyses as required and respond to inquiries from internal stakeholders.

  • Support corporate and management reporting related to G&A.

  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and other month-end close activities for G&A accounts.

  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of G&A financial information throughout the close cycle.

  • Support assessment cycles and ongoing accounting processes related to G&A.

  • Prepare Canada G&A budgets and forecasts, including labour cost forecasting.

  • Support cost and capital forecasting for support functions across the Canada Business Unit.

  • Assist with annual allocation processes, including time studies and labour allocation activities.

Audit and Tax Support

  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to support audits and ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.

  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of legal entity financial statements for tax purposes, including GAAP adjustments and maintenance of supporting working papers.

  • Support annual and ad hoc U.S. and Canadian tax requests and ensure timely government reporting.

Financial Accounting and Reporting Support

  • Support the preparation of quarterly and annual financial reports and related disclosures required by head office.

  • Assist subject matter experts and finance administrators with legacy defined benefit pension plans, insurance accounting, and lease accounting.

  • Support the financial accounting team during acquisitions and divestments (A&D).

  • Lead and contribute to finance special projects, including ad hoc analyses and short-term initiatives.

Authority Limits Administration and Monitoring

  • Administer and maintain financial authority limits in accordance with corporate Delegation of Authority (DOA) policies and internal control requirements.

  • Review and validate requests for new or revised authority limits (including role changes, cost center changes, and temporary delegations), ensuring appropriate documentation and approvals are in place.

  • Prepare audit support and compliance reporting related to financial authority limits, including evidence of approvals and control effectiveness.

  • Provide guidance to business partners on approval thresholds, documentation standards, and DOA requirements.

  • A collaborative, self-motivated team player who works well with minimal supervision and contributes positively to team objectives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Finance, Economics or a related discipline.

  • Professional accounting designation.

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

  • Strong understanding of IFRS, US GAAP, external reporting, accounting policies and procedures, and system controls.

  • Experience with partnership and subsidiary accounting, defined benefit pension accounting, and foreign currency accounting is an asset.

  • Advanced computer skills, including strong proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with SAP/S/4HANA, Oracle, and OneStream is preferred, along with the ability to analyze and manage large datasets.

  • Must be legally eligible to work full-time in Canada without restrictions.
