Frequently Asked Questions

Cultural Alignment

Resident’s culture is described by employees as fast-paced, innovative, driven, collaborative, inclusive, and fun. In fact, in our 2025 Employee Engagement Survey, these were the top words that came to mind when asked to describe Resident.

As a remote-first organization, we prioritize clear communication, cross-functional collaboration, and a shared sense of ownership. Employees are encouraged to think strategically, move quickly, and contribute ideas that drive meaningful business impact. At the same time, we aim to foster an inclusive environment where individuals feel connected, not just to their work, but to their teams.

Employees often highlight open communication, supportive teammates, and a workplace that feels collaborative. Leadership reinforces this through ongoing dialogue around company values, team forums, and initiatives intended to strengthen connection and engagement across a distributed workforce. The CEO and head of People Ops hold a monthly All Hands meeting where each functional lead across the organization shares the health of their business, what they’re working on, and where peers get to recognize one another in the monthly Culture Award and AI Innovator Award. Both of these awards come with a cash incentive.

Team Dynamics & Collaboration

Collaboration at Resident is often described as cross-functional, open, and agile, with teams working together to solve problems and drive shared business outcomes.

As a remote-first company, we rely on a mix of tools and practices to support effective collaboration across time zones. Teams commonly use platforms such as Slack, Notion, and Jira to stay aligned, alongside structured workflows and team rituals that help prioritize work, share updates, and continuously improve how teams operate.

Employees often highlight clear ownership and accountability, along with a balance of asynchronous and real-time communication, as important factors in keeping projects moving efficiently. Cross-functional collaboration is supported through shared goals (which are recorded in Lattice), aligned priorities, and close partnership across disciplines such as product, engineering, marketing, and customer experience.

Leadership aims to support a collaborative environment by promoting transparency, empowering teams to make decisions, and encouraging open dialogue. Managers are expected to facilitate communication, address challenges constructively, and create space for diverse perspectives.

Recognition Practices

In 2025, Residents reported (in the Annual Employee Engagement Survey) that approximately 91% of employees felt that giving praise and recognition is encouraged.

Employee recognition at Resident is supported through a mix of formal programs (monthly Culture Awards and AI Innovator Award) and everyday team practices (coffee and lunch gift cards via Thnks), all with an emphasis on reinforcing impact and company values.

Employees often highlight more informal moments of recognition as equally meaningful, such as managers acknowledging contributions in team meetings, cross-functional partners recognizing strong collaboration, and leaders sharing shoutouts that make individual and team impact more visible across the organization.

Leadership aims to reinforce recognition by highlighting contributions, incorporating feedback into performance discussions, and encouraging a culture where appreciation is shared openly across teams.
